Episode 52: Football’s Coming Home…Probably

It’s the start of the Euros this week, and that can only mean one thing – we haven’t changed the format of the podcast at all. But Ed’s back home, so that’s great.

This week we’re joined by Ben Smith, who’s all the way over in Austraia. Even though his Twitter handle calls him ZeGerman. That’s not confusing at all. But he does explain it, so it’s all good.

The question of the week is all about Euro 2016 – who would the FM community recommend keeping an eye on during the tournament.

George reckons Renato Sanches is the one to watch. He describes him as an 18 year old tank. Could have something to do with his position in George’s Benfica side.

He also steals Ed’s idea, so Ed plumps for Arkadiusz “Arek” Milik. Well, he’d just like to see him get some game time more than anything.

Ben reckons that we should all keep an eye on LeRoy Sane for Germany. He also pronounces the player’s name in the right way for the first time on the podcast.

Ontop of that there’s all of this excellent stuff –

  • George’s Benfica save crashed and wiped some of his progress, including a four nil thrashing of Porto. He’s not too cut up about it though, surprisingly.
  • Ben talks about his Germany for Germans team. George worries about the history of that phrase, but Ben’s save story is an interesting one all the same.
  • Ed might have been on holiday, but his Stoke team managed to do the Septuple, which is just as impressive as it is difficult to say. He’s ten seasons in now though, so he’s had some practice.
  • Then because it’s Euros week we have a good old chat about international management in FM and why it’s just not as enjoyable. Ed uses the phrase “polishing a turd”.

There’s all that and much, much more. And you can listen to it all in the SoundCloud player below. Or if you’d prefer, head over to iTunes and search for Deep Lying Podcast.
