This week Ed is back, and George is delighted. It’s been weird without him, but then George compares himself to Jesus and it all gets a different sort of weird.
We’re joined by Lee Price, long time listener first time podder. Thanks to Lee’s surname, we decided the question of this week should be about the largest amount of money that you’ve ever spent on a player in FM.
Lee has spent £140 million on Robert Lewandowski in his first galacticos save. It makes the £130 million he spent on Neymar look like a bargain. He’s all about easing himself in to the experience with a big-spending first save.
Ed doesn’t like spending big bucks, but his big-money-messiah was in a net save on FM14. He bought a Croatian regen for £79 million. For Norwich. And he’s spent more than £80 million on Pogba.
As we all know, George loves a bargain. He can’t remember which FM it happened in, but he once bought David Villa for £80 million. Mainly thanks to Valencia being dicks. And Villa didn’t even fit into his team.
Then there’s all of this as well –
- Lee has started a new save since the update. He’s trying to see if Tottenham can be turned into the best team in the country using the same ethics as the real world team. And he’s doing quite well even despite a strop from Harry Kane.
- George’s Benfica save hasn’t moved on that much. He’s signed a new contract, found a new bogey team, and got a bit bored with the way he was playing. Then he had a tweak and pulled down Shaktar Donetsk’s trousers. Possibly not literally.
- It’s been a long time since Ed filled us in. His Stoke save stagnated a bit, so he started a new save with Danubio in Uruguay. As you do.
- He didn’t win the league though, after a weird playoff, so he went back to his Stoke save and did his third Premier League / Champions League double in a row. The new season isn’t going great.
- Then we have a chat with Lee about who he is, what he does, and how he uses Football Manager as a useful first resource for finding out about players in the real world.
