George is on hosting duties again, because Ed has disappeared off the face of the earth. Or he’s been really unlucky, George isn’t entirely sure.
This week we’re joined by Jimmy who runs Loading bar in London. It’s basically a bar where you can turn up, buy some drinks, and play a bunch of video games. And he’s fallen back on the FM band wagon recently as well.
The question of the week was inspired by George’s love of a bargain – what was your best signing in a game of Football or Championship Manager.
Jimmy goes for romance, bringing back the likes of Robbie Fowler to Liverpool. It’s all about bringing the legends home. George’s reliance on free transfers means he’s got quite a big list. Jimmy Briand became a goal machine for Ajax, and George reminisces about his Oldham Freebies.
And then we talk about all of this –
- Jimmy talks about his Coventry save. He learned the hard way about the benefits of Assistant Managers, switched to comprehensive highlights mode, started tinkering, and managed to win 7 games in a row. He’s now decided he’s a tactical genius.
- George’s Benfica save is in an interesting place. He kept conceding goals from set pieces, but he’s changed things up and hasn’t been letting in that many goals since then. He’s on comprehensive highlights now as well, and he’s become far more reactive.
- And we have a chat about why Jimmy has decided to try and start up an FM meet up. It’s mainly so he can chat to people and get some more ideas about where he’s going wrong.
- Then Jimmy walks us through his experiences coming back to Football Manager after a long hiatus. It’s a learning curve, but he’s having a ball.
There’s much, much more as well. So why not have a listen in the SoundCloud player below. Or if you’d prefer head over to iTunes and have a search for Deep Lying Podcast.
